First things first…

November 30, 2012

Okay, I have been on a two week hiatus, I know, nothing new for me. Shut up, Chrissy. Here is the many wild and wonderful things that have transpired since last we shared some time together…to be read with an old school, baritone, radio announcer voice way back when radio was the major form of entertainment…

When last we left out heroine she was physically and emotionally drained from her weeks of Interferon therapy and was happy to just be able to relax and get better. Little did she know (sound of ominous music playing–dunt, dunt, duuuuuuuuuuuh)…

So I had barely been off the med for a week when I had a scary little bout of cellulitis. Essentially, in the course of four hours my leg went from being, eh, achy to being a red hot flaming painful mass of ugly. Insert ER visit here where I complain loudly to my husband and sister in ALL CAPS text how angry I am that the morons who got picked up for drunk driving or public intoxication after the football game were being wheeled straight back and how I was being left in the chairs to spontaneously combust. Emergency Departments are broke, y’all, but that is another story for another day. I got to see the doctor, I got a room, I got 24 hours of antibiotics. IV. Three big whomping, instant diarrhea and go ahead and start the diflucan antibiotics. No improvement in my leg. The on call doc, who is an excellent doctor by all reports, told me that he was going to take me to surgery that afternoon because he didn’t know what else to do. For a better understanding of what that means, ask any nurse friend what a wound vac is and you will see the look of abject loathing spread instantaneously across their face. In two words: not good.

I sent out the plea. PLEASE PRAY. By that afternoon I stopped getting worse and by the next morning I had started getting better. I came home on a Tuesday night and thanks to the prodding of my husband and a very helpful friend who went way out of her way for me, and my rock star of a daddy, I spent Thanksgiving at my sister’s and we all had a wonderful relaxing time. Oh, except for the three nights that my son ran a fever and didn’t sleep. Details.

But that isn’t the good news. NOW HEAR THIS: I OFFICIALLY PASSED THE THREE MONTH MARK WITH NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, I know, what is with all the shouting? Sorry, but I just can’t contain myself! To know that there is no evidence of cancer in my body and that I don’t have to see any medical professional other than the one I sleep with for the next three months is an enormous thing. I haven’t gone more than two weeks in the last eight months without some form of visit, follow up, treatment or surgery and bi-golly, three whole months all to myself. Just imagine it. Working eight hours a day straight, having a weekly routine, making dinner for my family. And Chris won’t have any soccer after tonight for weeks and weeks. We should take a vacation, write a book, read the Illiad. We will have so much free time on our hands that we won’t know what to do with ourselves.

Seriously, it is a blessing. We are blessed. I am blessed beyond measure. THANKSGIVING, INDEED!

well….you know that is what I am here for Mareeka! But come on now, I haven’t been that annoying lately..but that is to change now that the 3 month mark has passed 🙂 I recommend you take a vacation (I just don’t think I could sit still long enough to read the Illiad) and I will not “nudge” you on your posts until after Christmas! Oh, and another thing, my name is spelled C-R-I-S-S-Y. Everyone misspells it, not just you 🙂
